Cleveland Guards not happy with how Monday's delay dropped

NEW YORK — The Guardians are dissatisfied with the way Monday night’s postponement of the fifth and decisive game of the American League Division Series has been handled in negotiations with the Yankees and MLB.

They thought the match might have been played after the rain stopped on Monday night, and the game was officially postponed after 10 pm.

Game 5 was postponed to 16:07 on Tuesday.

The match was originally scheduled for 7:07 p.m. on Monday.

The delay allowed the Yankees to change the pitchers that indicated. Right-handed Jameson Taillon was scheduled to start Monday night, but now the Yankees will go with left-handed Nestor Cortes, who started Friday’s Game 2 against Cleveland ace Shane Bieber.

In Game 2, Cortes was undecided on five innings for two innings. In the 10th inning of this game, Taillon allowed two runs in three straights as the Guards rally for a 4-2 win.

Cortes, who will take a short break on Tuesday, faced Cleveland twice during the regular season. He went 1-0 with a 2.19 ERA. Cortes trailed 14, two walks, and allowed three runs in 12 1/3 hits.

The Guards went ahead 29-17 in matches initiated by the leftists throughout the season.

Before Monday’s game started to rain, Cleveland manager Terry Francona said Monday’s starting game, Aaron Civale, would begin Tuesday if there was a delay.

As for Bieber, Francona said she volunteered to get out of the bullring for Monday’s winner-take-all game. The request was turned down by Francona and shooting coach Carl Willis.

When asked if Bieber could take a short rest if the match was moved to Tuesday, Francona said no because Bieber was due to hold a bullfighting session on Monday.

After the match was postponed, the Guardians announced that their start for Tuesday “must be determined”. It is believed that there may have been some playfulness in their reluctance to name a starter, as they announced that Civale would launch on Tuesday morning.

Bieber hit the Yankees and Cortes 5 2/3 hits in Game 2. He gave up two runs in Giancarlo Stanton’s first game, but drew 2-2 in sixth place. He took seven hits, walked three, and allowed five hits in 101 shots.

In 2021, Bieber had just 16 starts with a strained rotator cuff on his right shoulder. He made 31 debuts and hit 200 this season, but was watched closely by the training team.

It’s also believed that the Guardians would prefer to start Tuesday’s makeover game earlier. The winner of Game 5 will advance to the American League Championship against the Astros. Game 1 is Wednesday night in Houston.

An earlier start could have allowed him to more easily travel to Houston for the Game 5 winner.

Yankee Stadium offers a distinct home advantage. They led the AL this season with over 3 million fans in attendance. The Yankees tied the Dodgers 57-24 for the best home record in the major leagues.

A 16:07 start gives the Yankees more of a chance to fill the basketball courts than an earlier start. It will also create a larger audience for all of MLB’s major TV partners. TBS carried ALDS.

Finally, as someone close to the situation said, Monday’s decision was weather related.

everything in order

It’s only been two games, but Francona was impressed by rookie Gabriel Arias’s first game.

“I don’t think that moment was too big for him,” Francona said. “He looks comfortable. He moved very well to the right of a ball. I think he did well. He was tested too.”

Home coach Mike Sarbaugh has been working with Arias since joining the Guardians from Triple-A Columbus on September 21.

“I thought the Triple-A staff did a really good job preparing it,” Sarbaugh said. “He looked good. He got into position really quickly, which says a lot about him.”

Arias was in the squad for the first game on Monday before the game was postponed.

Fourth and goal

Outfielders Will Brennan and Myles Straw played football in front of Cleveland’s bunker, killing time during Monday’s rain delay. Both made a pass to the fans in the stands, and the fans threw the ball back.

Finally, they were told to stop by a ballpark attendant. The crowd booed and Brennan and Straw entered the bunker.
