After weeks of antisemitic and controversial remarks, Kanye West has found himself at the center of a $250 million lawsuit filed by the family of police brutality victim George Floyd.

by newsletter Floyd’s daughter’s mother, Roxie Washington, will sue Kanye West (legal name Ye) for “harassment, abuse, defamation” and “causing emotional distress”, according to The Times on Tuesday. Click 2 Houston first reported the news.

The lawsuit comes just days after the “Donda” rapper made disparaging comments about Floyd’s 2020 death, in which Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin pinned him to the ground for about 9½ minutes. Floyd’s murder sparked the Black Lives Matter movement and global outcries against police brutality.

Chauvin, who was white, knelt on Floyd’s neck as Floyd repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe. In April 2021, Chauvin was found guilty of killing Floyd. Over the weekend, West questioned Floyd’s cause of death.

“I watched the George Floyd documentary by Candace Owens” West said on the weekend episodeThe “Champs Drink” has since been removed from their platform. “They hit him with fentanyl. Look, he wasn’t even around his neck on his knee.”

West’s comments came after attending the premiere of Owens’ Daily Wire documentary “The Biggest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM.”

“Kanye West told malicious lies about George Floyd to take advantage of Mr. Floyd’s horrific death and the trauma of his family,” the news release claimed.

Lawyers for Floyd’s loved ones also claimed that “Floyd’s daughter is re-traumatized by Kanye West’s comments and creates an unsafe and unhealthy environment for her.”

“Kanye’s comments are a repulsive attempt to belittle the life of George Floyd and profit from his inhumane death. Attorney Pat D. Dixon said in a statement that we will hold Mr. West accountable for his outspoken statements against Mr. Floyd’s legacy. Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law will represent Floyd’s loved ones.

A few days before the lawsuit was filed on Tuesday, attorney Lee Merritt, who previously represented Floyd’s family, said: tweeted on sunday He said a legal response to West’s comments was imminent.

“While the dead cannot be slandered, the #GeorgeFloyd family is considering suing for Kanye’s misrepresentations regarding the manner of death,” Merritt said. “Claiming that Floyd died from fentanyl, not from criminal and civilly instituted brutality, undermines and diminishes the Floyd family’s struggle.”

The rapper made controversial comments about Floyd’s death nearly two years after he claimed that Floyd offered financial support to his daughter. In June 2020, West reportedly donated $2 million to the families of Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. As part of West’s financial assistance, Floyd allegedly set up a college savings fund for his daughter, TMZ reported at the time.

West has suffered a pullback for a barrage of damaging claims he’s made recently. She unplugged her Instagram and Twitter accounts. Her upcoming appearances on HBO’s series “The Shop” have been shelved, and her relationship with clothing brand Adidas is on the rocks.

West has also been criticized for wearing the “White Life Matters” shirt at Paris Fashion Week for antisemitic conspiracy theories shared in leaked footage from his two-night interview with Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson.
